Being able to recognise when the changes requested are science-led and when there has simply been poor project management is very beneficial.
Don’t be put off if you are not sure what you want to do and take opportunities if they present themselves.
On reflection, I’m not sure my aim was ever to remain in academia!
I had a great time during my PhD and really enjoyed the field I worked in. However, I started to realise that I wasn’t going to achieve the impact that I had, rather naively, expected with my project and I needed something that had more interaction with people. The lab was just not the place for me.
